Bridging the Research-Practice Gap
Translating research findings into practical interventions and policies for migrant health remains a critical barrier in the Middle East and North Africa region. Public health officials often have strong clinical or research backgrounds but lack the methodological tools to bridge the gap between evidence generation and real-world implementation.
Without implementation science capacity, even the most promising interventions fail to reach the populations who need them. Programs stall at the pilot stage, policies aren't adopted, and evidence-based practices don't translate into improved health outcomes.
"The gap between knowing what works and actually implementing it at scale is where implementation science becomes essential."
Our Approach
Multi-Framework Training Initiative
We designed and conducted a 5-day interactive workshop integrating leading implementation science frameworks and practical application exercises.
01
RE-AIM Framework
Taught Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance principles for evaluating intervention impact.
02
CFIR Integration
Applied the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research to understand contextual factors affecting adoption.
03
EPIS Model
Used Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment phases to structure implementation planning.
04
Proposal Development
Guided participants through developing practical IS research proposals targeting migrant health in their contexts.
"
The initiative established an Implementation Science-focused training institute at Columbia Global Centers | Amman to build regional expertise and promote evidence-based practice uptake.

Capacity Building Best Practices
1
Multiple Frameworks Provide Flexibility
Teaching RE-AIM, CFIR, and EPIS together gives practitioners tools for different implementation challenges.
2
Practical Application Drives Learning
Developing real research proposals during training ensures concepts translate into actionable skills.
3
Institutional Anchoring Sustains Impact
Establishing a permanent institute ensures training continues beyond the initial workshop.
4
Multi-Institution Partnership Strengthening Credibility
Combining Columbia, Mailman, and AUB expertise created a comprehensive and trusted program.
